Jamie Whincup takes another pole in Barbagallo's third V8 Supercars qualifying session

Jamie Whincup wrapped up a Sunday morning double as he added pole for race three of V8 Supercars' Barbagallo triple-header to his fastest qualifying time in the earlier race two session

The championship leader denied his Triple Eight Holden team-mate Craig Lowndes, who had struggled to row seven in round eight qualifying minutes earlier, but jumped back into contention when the drivers switched from hard tyres to softs in the round nine session.

Lowndes knocked Whincup off the top spot with a 55.4225-second lap just before the red flags came out so Taz Douglas could be retrieved from the Turn 6 sand trap.

There was only 1m42s left when qualifying resumed, but that was enough time for Whincup to throw in a quick lap and beat his team-mate by 0.1336s.

Behind the all-Triple Eight front row will be an all-Ford Performance Racing row two, with Will Davison leading Mark Winterbottom.

Russell Ingall produced comfortably his best qualifying performance of the year to secure fifth for Walkinshaw Racing, only to be disqualified for a parc ferme infringement. That promoted David Reynolds in the satellite FPR entry into the top five.
