Danny Watts says fight for petrol 'class' honours in Spa World Endurance Championship is too close to call

Danny Watts believes the fight for unofficial petrol honours in Saturday's six-hour World Endurance Championship race at Spa will be close as the weather looks set to unpredictable and predominantly wet throughout the event

The Strakka driver, who qualified the HPD he shares with Jonny Kane and Nick Leventis sixth on the grid, splitting the two Rebellion Lola Coupes, believes that while the Audi diesels will be untouchable, the fight behind them is too close to call.

"Audi, with all things being equal on a dry track, are in a completely different league," he told AUTOSPORT. "In the wet I don't think that is going to be any different and I think the only thing they can do [to help us] is trip over each other.

"It is very close between the rest of us. There's not a lot in it at all. The rest of us will be quite close together."

Watts said the weather, and Saturday began drizzly following heavy rain overnight, will play a key role in deciding the outcome of the race.

"A lot of it will be chasing the weather really," he said. "It's going to be busy with 60-odd cars, and drivers with different experiences on track and you have always got to take that into consideration.

"A lot of it will be down to the boys on the pitwall calling the right strategy and the right tyres at the right time."
