Adrian Quaife-Hobbs leads Auto GP practice in Hungary

Auto GP championship leader Adrian Quaife-Hobbs was quickest as the series resumed after its three-week break at the Hungaroring

The Super Nova racer's time of 1m34.565 in opening free practice was over a second faster than Campos Racing's gentleman driver, hotelier and restaurateur, Giuseppe Cipriani.

Quaife-Hobbs' fastest lap was on his fourth lap on soft tyres, and he later produced a time of 1m34.8s on medium compound Kumhos.

"The car is feeling good, we just have a small imbalance which we'll work on for free practice two," said Quaife-Hobbs. "I was within three tenths on both the soft and medium compound tyres. Every lap I did on the medium tyre was good enough for pole, but the soft is giving a bit of an advantage on the opening lap."

Winner of the preceding race in Marrakech, Chris van der Drift claimed third for MP Motorsport. The Kiwi was one of three drivers warned for failing to respect track limits, alongside Quaife-Hobbs' team-mate Victor Guerin, who was fourth, and MLR 71 driver Michele La Rosa.

Italian Formula 3 champion Sergio Campana in the second MLR 71 entry was nursing a patched up eyebrow following an accident on his farm when work with earthmoving equipment. Campana shrugged off his minor injuries to take fifth.

"I had an incident working with a tractor and excavator, but I'm not too bad," said Campana.

Dutchman Daniel de Jong completed the top six for MP Motorsport, ahead of Ombra's series returnee Adderly Fong.

Monza winner Pal Varhaug's progress was slowed by loose bodywork, for which his Virtuosi UK machine was black-flagged.
