Alessandro Balzan takes Ferrari pole double at Imola

Alessandro Balzan secured pole position for both of Sunday's Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli races at Imola

The Italian was in stunning form during qualifying, setting the fastest time in both of the sessions. Balzan's lap in the first qualifying session was particularly impressive, his 1m45.732s more than half a second clear of the field. He almost replicated that time in the second session to ensure he will start from pole in both races.

Niki Cadei was second in both sessions, and improved significantly in the second outing. While he was 0.588s behind Balzan in the first session, the gap was less than two tenths in the fight for the race two pole position.

Round one star Bjorn Grossmann struggled to match the pace of the top two, qualifying third for race one, before slipping to fourth in the second session. The German's relative lack of pace gave Ukranian Andrii Kluglyk the chance to nab third in the second session, after he had been fifth fastest in the first.

The other top 10 spots went to Lorenzo Case (fourth in Q1), Alexandr Skryabin (seventh and fifth), Dario Caso (ninth and sixth), Max Blancardi (sixth and seventh), Flavio Pierleoni (eighth in both sessions), Patrick Gobbo (10th and ninth) and Robert Pergl (10th in Q2).

In the Coppa Shell (for gentleman drivers), Daniele di Amato and Alexey Basov shared the pole positions.
