Bryan Clauson to make IndyCar debut at Indianapolis with Sarah Fisher Hartman Racing

The American has already tested for the team at Texas Motor Speedway, and is getting his Indy 500 shot as part of IndyCar's efforts to re-establish links between its showpiece race and the short-track oval racing scene.

Clauson contested a part-season in Indy Lights last year in preparation for his IndyCar attempt.

"It's an awesome opportunity for me to enter the Indianapolis 500 with Sarah Fisher Hartman Racing," said the 22-year-old. "It's almost surreal just talking about it. For me to be attempting to make the race with Sarah's team is just phenomenal.

"With her background in sprint car and midget racing and her continued involvement at that level, this is just a good fit for me. I'm also proud to be an Indiana boy driving for an Indiana team."

Team boss Sarah Fisher was confident that Clauson would impress at Indy.

"Personally knowing his background, I have complete confidence in his credentials, talent and capabilities, and look forward to working with him at Indy," she said.

Clauson will line up alongside Indy Lights champion Josef Newgarden at Fisher's team.

IndyCar chief Randy Bernard was delighted that Clauson had secured his Indy 500 seat.

"Not only is Bryan one of the most talented USAC drivers, his participation in the Indy 500 will attract the interest of short track fans across the country," said Bernard.
