Menu keeps Chevrolet on top in the second WTCC practice session at Monza

Chevrolet's Alain Menu set the pace early in the second World Touring Car Championship free practice session at Monza. The Swiss racer was the only driver to record a time under the 1m59s mark, with a lap of 1m58.645s

Gabriele Tarquini's new 1.6 turbo engine in his Lukoil Racing SEAT continued to show promise. The Italian repeated his second position from the opening practice session on Saturday morning, but was 0.6s adrift of Menu's effort.

Menu's Chevrolet team-mate and free practice one pacesetter Rob Huff took third spot, just 0.005 seconds shy of Tarquini's leading Leon.

Spaniard Pepe Oriola banked a late lap in his SUNRED SEAT to jump into fifth as the chequered flag was shown.

World champion Yvan Muller (Chevrolet) was fifth, ahead of Tarquini's Lunkoil team-mate Aleksei Dudukalo.

The majority of the fastest laps were recorded early in the session, although Oriola and WTCC debutant Alex MacDowall, who ended the morning seventh fastest in his bamboo-engineering Cruze, succeeded in making late improvements.

The oil that caused dramas in the first free practice session did not appear to create any further issues, although reigning Italian Superstars champion Alberto Cerqui had an early moment bouncing across the gravel at the Ascari chicane in his ROAL Motorsport BMW 320 TC.
