Hector Hurst steps up to F2 for 2012
British driver Hector Hurst will graduate from Formula Renault BARC to Formula 2 for the 2012 season
The 19-year-old scored two fifth-place finishes en route to 13th in last season's BARC Renault championship. He has previously been a finalist on the Formula BMW European Scholarship programme, although he elected to sit out 2010 in order to focus on his education.
Hurst, who is manged by former F1 driver Mark Blundell, joined F2's winter test at Barcelona at the end of 2011. He admitted a full season in F2 represents a major learning curve.
"I'm really looking forward to my first season of F2, especially racing at all the top European circuits on the calendar," he said.
"I really enjoyed driving the car in Barcelona and loved the way it handled as well as how precise it felt. This year is going to be a learning curve for me but I aim to be challenging for podiums as the season progresses and would love to finish in the top five."
Blundell said F2 would allow Hurt's talent to show through quickly, saying: "F2 is a great proving ground for a young driver and the equality of the championship and data sharing between cars and drivers allows a driver's talent to show through quickly.
"This is a big reason why we have chosen F2 for Hector's next step in his career."
