Carlos Sainz Jr tops rain-affected second day of British F3 testing

Formula Renault North Eurocup champion Carlos Sainz Jr leapt to the top of the times in the closing stages of the second day of the British Formula 3 International Series test at Snetterton, which took place in wet conditions

The Carlin-run Spaniard bounced back after spinning off earlier in the afternoon and, with a new front wing added, he ended up the best part of seven tenths clear of the field. His Dallara-VW completed three laps that were quicker than the best anyone else managed.

Another Renault champion, Fortec Motorsport's UK title holder Alex Lynn, sat in second place until the very final lap of the day, when his Mercedes-engined Dallara was bumped down to third by Carlin's Harry Tincknell.

Most of Carlin's drivers sat in the pits for most of the day in gloomy weather, and did not venture out until the rainfall became less relentless and the track conditions improved - Tuesday's fastest man, Jazeman Jaafar, completed just five flying laps all day.

Fortec-run Dutchman Hannes van Asseldonk proved his wet-weather prowess by sitting atop the times for most of the day, but slipped to seventh when running ended.

Hywel Lloyd, who plans to run cars this season rather than drive them, comfortably topped the National Class from Nick McBride, who should step up to the International Class at next week's Rockingham test, where T-Sport plans to debut its brand-new Nissan-powered Dallara F312.
