Valsecchi not reading much into times despite leading all three days of GP2 testing

DAMS and Davide Valsecchi say they are not reading much into the times set in GP2 testing this week, where the Italian set the pace on all three days at Jerez

Category veteran Valsecchi's best lap over the three days was 0.4 seconds clear of his closest rival, Lotus GP's Esteban Gutierrez.

While DAMS president Jean-Paul Driot described the performance at the test as "exceptional", the team's general manager Francois Sicard explained that setting a headline time was not important.

"The whole team is very happy with the three days and we're delighted with the fastest time, which goes to prove the quality of the effort we've made," said Sicard.

"But we mustn't get carried away as we're only just beginning and far from running in race conditions.

"We're very pleased to see that the relationship between engineers and drivers gelled very quickly, and we collected a large amount of useful data."

Valsecchi, who is preparing for his fifth season in the category, shared his team's view.

"It's nice to see I set the quickest time, but it's not the most important thing," said the Italian. "What'll count is our position in the race and we'll do everything possible to be out front.

"I'm feeling a little tired at the end of the week as we got through a lot of work, but I'm happy. The car's running really well."
