Yamaha MotoGP duo play down test times as Honda leads at Sepang

Yamaha riders Jorge Lorenzo and Ben Spies say they are not paying too much attention to the deficit to the Hondas on day one of the second MotoGP winter test at Sepang today

Honda was first and second quickest with Casey Stoner and Dani Pedrosa, as Lorenzo and Spies' best times in third and fourth places were 0.675 and 1.058 seconds off the pace respectively.

But Lorenzo said the track and weather conditions made the Tuesday times unrepresentative, as the Sepang circuit was dirty initially and heavy rain fell in the afternoon.

"We started with a different engine spec to the one we used in the last test. Today it was difficult to make any comparisons as the track was in much worse condition than last time and the lap times were much slower," he said.

"The rain also meant we couldn't finish everything we wanted to today on the track so we'll see what we can do tomorrow."

Spies added that it was better not to pay attention to the competition at this stage anyway.

"The Yamaha engineers delivered a lot for us to test again, it's important we go the right way with the parts and not worry too much about what everyone else is doing," he said.

"We have to focus on the task at hand which is what we're doing and getting through all the updates methodically. We will keep working and hope for some good weather in the next two days."
