IndyCar's new DW12 set for crucial oval test at Texas

IndyCar is hoping to finalise its new car's aero package for ovals at Tuesday's scheduled test at Texas Motor Speedway ahead of next month's open test at the 1.5-mile track

KV Racing's Tony Kanaan, Penske's Ryan Briscoe, and Bryan Herta Autosport's Alex Tagliani are all due to run tomorrow, and IndyCar vice president of technology Will Phillips said that the outing would be a crucial one in the continuing development of the new DW12 chassis.

The DW12 proved difficult to handle on ovals in its early tests, but has since been modified by constructor Dallara.

"We're going to Texas to make sure of and define what specification we should run the car in aerodynamically, but also it's the first opportunity that IndyCar has had to look at the suspension to change the weight distribution," Phillips told the official IndyCar website.

"The intention is to run the cars in similar configurations. They'll have different set-ups because I'm not specifying a set-up, but similar aerodynamic specification and then step through an agreed programme with all three groups."

Phillips also plans to use the session to give the first track test to the new aero parts that Dallara trialled in the windtunnel last month, as well as giving an oval debut to the new lightweight spool for the Xtrac transmission.
