Starworks Motorsport to run LMP2 HPD in World Endurance Championship

Starworks Motorsport will enter the World Endurance Championship this year with an LMP2 class HPD ARX-03b

Starworks Motorsport will enter the World Endurance Championship this year with an LMP2 class HPD ARX-03b.

British driver Ryan Dalziel, who anchored the squad to second place at last weekend's Daytona 24 Hours, will share the car with Venezuelan driver Enzo Potolicchio and one other driver, who has yet to be announced.

Brian Colangelo will run the WEC programme, answering to team director Simon Morley, while Steve Challis will lead the engineering side of the team.

Team owner Peter Baron said: "It seemed like such a far-fetched dream even to contemplate doing the WEC for 2012. I watched the international prototypes racing when I was growing up and this was too good an opportunity to miss.

"Pushing ourselves, we looked at our assets and our potential, and we thought we are just a few key hires away from having the right people in place. The most important thing is that we have everything in position not just to compete, but to challenge.

"We are not there to just participate, we are there to compete for a championship. Our team has a tremendous wealth of experience running high tech cars, and we are up to the challenge."

Starworks will make its WEC debut at the Sebring 12 Hours, for which it will run out of its Florida headquarters. The rest of the programme will be run from a new base in Cardiff.
