Solberg willing to gamble for victory

The Norwegian is running second, having passed Freddy Loix on the second stage this morning. Solberg's Peugeot 207 S2000 was the fastest car across the two morning tests as he took five seconds out of Juho Hanninen's lead - but he remains 51 seconds behind the Skoda-driving Finn.

"We were on the same tyre as Hanninen this morning," said Solberg. "We got five [seconds] which is something, but it's not enough, we need more.

"I guess we need to gamble, the time has come for us to do something with the tyre. The gap is in the place now where it's very difficult to make the difference with driving, he is a proper driver who is going really well."

With snow falling on the next stage, the time is perfect for Solberg to take a gamble, but the former world champion admitted he did not want to lose his second place.

"I have never tested the car in these dry conditions we have had, so I'm happy with what we have done so far," added Solberg. "There is more to come from me, but so far second is good - but we want to fight and we want to try and push for the win."
