H11: Battle for second heats up

David Brabham has maintained the #9 Peugeot's one-lap lead at Le Mans, while the battle for second place has heated up between Allan McNish and Stephane Sarrazin

Sarrazin took over the #8 Peugeot 908 from Franck Montagny at the beginning of the hour and began to close the gap to McNish in the #1 Audi. But McNish responded and matched Sarrazin's times, setting the #1 car's fastest lap of the race so far in the process.

McNish had to pit for fuel and new tyres shortly before the end of the hour, and rejoined just seven seconds ahead of Sarrazin.

The Peugeot closed onto the tail of the Audi but had to pit for fuel before he could mount an attack. With the pair pitting out of sync with each other, the dice between them is set to rage through the night.

Simon Pagenaud is still fourth, but now has a two-lap cushion over the #007 Lola Aston Martin following a three-minute pitstop for Tomas Enge while the team worked on the cooling system at the rear of the car.

Emmanuel Collard still holds a lead of four laps for the Team Essex Porsche at the head of the LMP2 class, over Seiji Ara's Team Goh Porsche.

Jan Magnussen is back aboard the #63 Corvette, still with a two-minute advantage over the sister #64 car, which still has Marcel Fassler at the wheel.

Pierre Kaffer continues at the head of GT2 in the Risi Competizione Ferrari, more than two and a half minutes clear of the JMW Ferrari. Raymond Narac is slowly edging the IMSA Porsche back into contention - now within two minutes of Robert Bell in the JMW car.
