H10: Peugeot leads by a lap over Audi

David Brabham holds a three-minute lead for the #9 Peugeot over the #1 Audi of Allan McNish heading into the early hours of the morning Le Mans

Tom Kristensen worked the #1 car back onto the lead lap, before handing over to McNish and allowing the Peugeot to regain its one-lap lead.

McNish was then under threat from a charge by third-placed Franck Montagny in the #8 908. Montagny got the gap down to 30 seconds, but McNish has matched the Frenchman stride for stride since the last round of pitstops to build the gap to over a minute before he next pits for fuel.

Jean-Christophe Boullion is keeping the Pescarolo Peugeot in touch, just a couple of minutes behind Montagny in fourth.

Stefan Mucke is a lonely fifth in the #007 Lola Aston Martin, more than a lap behind Boullion and more than a lap ahead of Andre Lotterer in the #14 Kolles Audi.

Lotterer and Charles Zwolsman have kept their R10 in the top six, despite being one driver short following Narain Karthikeyan's dislocated shoulder before the start of the race.

The #009 Aston Martin is another that will have to complete the race with two drivers, as Stuart Hall has been excluded from the rest of the race as punishment for taking out the #26 Radical in an earlier accident.

Bruno Senna has suffered a similar accident to that of his team-mate Stephane Ortelli in the #10 ORECA-AIM. Like Ortelli, Senna was able to return the car to the pits for repairs, but it as dropped further down the order to 19th place.

The Team Essex Porsche has opened a healthy lead at the head of the LMP2 class, thanks to its nearest rival, the Team Goh Porsche, hitting trouble.

Seiji Ara reported a vibration in the RS Spyder and the car returned to the pits twice for long stops while the Japanese team went to work under the front right corner of the car. It has since rejoined and is still second in class, albeit four laps behind the Essex car.

Xavier Pompidou is third in LMP2 in the #33 Speedy Sebah Lola, but that car also lost significant time in the pits following a collision with Leo Mansell in the Team Modena Ferrari 430.

Antonio Garcia has maintained a healthy lead for the #63 Corvette. Olivier Beretta had got the gap down to half a minute, but that will increase as the #64 has just made a pitstop.

The Risi Competizione Ferrari is still in the lead of the GT2 class, ahead of the JMW Motorsport 430. The IMSA 911 is still the highest-placed of the Porsches, but is 90 seconds adrift of the JMW car following a delay caused by a puncture.
