Le Mans starts with Peugeot leading

Franck Montagny has converted the #8 Peugeot's pole position into an early lead in the Le Mans 24 Hours

The Frenchman held Allan McNish in the #1 Audi R15 at bay through the opening corners of the race before Pedro Lamy in the #7 Peugeot blasted by McNish to take second place on the Mulsanne straight.

Alexander Wurz quickly made it a Peugeot 1-2-3, moving ahead of Jean-Christophe Boullion's Pescarolo-run Peugeot 908 on the opening lap and then demoting McNish to fourth place on the second run down the Mulsanne.

Mike Rockenfeller is sixth in the #2 Audi, while Stefan Mucke has moved the #007 Lola Aston Martin into seventh place by passing Alexandre Premat in the #3 Audi.

Darren Turner is running ninth in the #008 Aston, while Andrea Bellichi completes the top 10 in the Speedy Racing Team Sebah Lola Aston.

Emmanuel Collard has taken the early lead in the LMP2 class, starting the pole-sitting Team Essex Porsche RS Spyder and keeping it just ahead of the Team Goh Porsche of Seiji Ara.

Jan Magnussen has kept the #63 Corvette in the GT1 lead, ahead of team-mate Oliver Gavin, while Marc Lieb has started the Felbermayr Porsche ahead of Jaime Melo in the #82 Risi Competizione Ferrari 430.
