Jani celebrates Switzerland's title

Neel Jani celebrated Team Switzerland's A1GP title at Brands Hatch today and believes the series is now stronger than ever

The Red Bull-backed driver clinched the championship with fourth place in the Sprint Race this morning, and rounded off the season with third place in the Feature.

"I'm delighted," he told autosport.com. "It's what we worked for all year long and in the end it came together.

"The older A1GP gets the more it means to win it. Every year it gets more professional, the teams and the drivers. People like Franck Montagny, for example, are not slow. Other guys that are considered unknowns, like Franky Cheng, are showing that they're also quick."

Jani praised the Swiss team's consistency throughout the season, but still believes they should have won more than four races along the way.

"In the end we have to say we only had four wins because there were so many races we led and something happened. I was sometimes frustrated but I'm really happy that it still ended well."

He plans to return to the series next season, even if he lands his desired drive in Formula One.

"I hope to get a drive in Formula One for 2009, that's my goal. But this September the new A1GP series will start and I'm definitely going to be there because it doesn't clash with anything else.

"I want to drive the new Ferrari car. I'm really looking forward to it and I've heard it should look really good. It's another good step forward for the whole championship, it gives it another boost."
