Reid vows to fight back next season

Team New Zealand's Jonny Reid has vowed to come back fighting in the 2008/09 A1GP championship after conceding title defeat to Switzerland at Brands Hatch on Sunday

Reid, who needed to win both races to stand any chance of lifting the crown for New Zealand, said that while he was frustrated by watching the championship slowly slip from his team's grasp, he warned rivals that the Kiwis now know what's needed to be champions.

"We were good enough to be champions this year and that is the frustrating thing," he told autosport.com. "You look back at places like Australia, where we couldn't get restarted when I stalled, which was just a stupid mistake, or in South Africa where we had a pitstop go wrong and I was released into the Mexican car.

"We would have come out in the lead. But would've, could've, should've is part of motor racing. Next year though, A1 Team New Zealand will be back and we will definitely be in the hunt."

Reid added that the weekend hadn't been a complete write-off and drew satisfaction from protecting the team's second place in the championship from a resurgent Team GBR at Brands Hatch with a fighting eight place in the Feature Race from 16th on the grid.

"I have mixed feelings about the weekend," he said. "There was an opportunity missed but at the same time I am grateful because we had our fair share of bad luck you know.

"We were held up in qualifying for the Feature Race and we had to start much further down the order than we would have liked, but as a team we dug deep and that is what you have got to do from time to time.

"We achieved our goal, which was to hang on to second. At the end of day I am very, very pleased to have sealed second against Great Britain on their home turf."
