Jani says title not won yet

Neel Jani remained cautious ahead of this weekend's A1GP season finale at Brands Hatch, despite just needing to finish seventh in either race to clinch the title for Team Switzerland

Jani will start the weekend with a 29-point advantage over New Zealand's Jonny Reid, with just 32 up for grabs over the weekend.

The Kiwis will also need to win both races to stand a chance of overhauling Switzerland but Jani insisted that the battle isn't over yet.

"There was a Swiss guy in this year's skiing world cup and everyone thought he was going to win," said Jani. "The only way he could not win the title was if he scored zero and the other guy won the event. And what happened? He scored no points and the other guy won by 100th of a second.

"It was incredible, he only needed to finish 15th but his teammate, who was the very last skier, pushed him down to 16th. Everyone thought it was impossible for him to lose the title but it happened.

"It's not impossible for us to lose this title. We'll see what happens at Brands, we just need to keep our heads down and not make any mistakes."

New Zealand's Reid isn't ready to give up the title fight just yet either.

"I have a belief in myself and the car that we can do this," he said. "The team is definitely capable of winning both races and from there, who knows? There are so many variables.

"If they're timid, anything could happen. While they're trying to minimise mistakes and keep out of trouble, we'll be going flat out because we have nothing to lose. I'm going to drive the pants off the car and not think about the outcome."
