Jarvis dominates Macau Grand Prix

Oliver Jarvis dominated the Macau Grand Prix on Sunday, leading every lap and looking unchallenged throughout to take the biggest victory of his career

The TOM'S driver, who qualified on pole and had won the qualification race on Saturday, made a brilliant getaway to lead into Lisboa Bend and instantly opened up an advantage to control things from the front.

Nearest challenger Marko Asmer briefly got alongside him on the run from the line, but there was little the Estonian could do to take the lead and in the end he lost places to Kazuya Oshima and Sam Bird on the run down to the first turn.

Asmer managed to recover third position at the start of lap two when he slipstreamed Bird down the main straight and moved ahead under braking for Lisboa.

He then set about closing in on Oshima, cutting down his advantage the following lap before the Japanese F3 champion responded the following tour to also cut down Jarvis' lead slightly.

The three leaders then held station for several laps, with Jarvis enjoying a two-second lead over Oshima, with Asmer a little more than one second further adrift.

But then on lap seven Frenchman Frank Mailleux crashed heavily at Moorish Hill, badly damaging the left hand side of his car and leaving it stranded in a dangerous position.

The safety car was called out, bunching up the leaders while the stricken Manor Motorsport car was moved behind the barriers.

Jarvis timed the restart on lap 11 perfectly, opening up a one-second lead over Oshima, while behind him Asmer lost third place to Kodai Tsukakoshi on the run down to Mandarin Bend.

Tsukakoshi got another position on the run to Lisboa on lap 13 when he went around the outside of Oshima - to then set his sights on race leader Jarvis.

But Jarvis had matters completely under control and although he lost a few tenths in the final laps, he came home 1.7 seconds ahead.

Oshima finished third, with Asmer taking fourth place. Brazilian Roberto Streit was fifth, with Sam Bird sixth, James Jakes seventh and Romain Grosjean recovering brilliantly to claim eighth at the flag from 21st on the grid.
