Gommendy keeps maiden pole
Tristan Gommendy did not even leave the pitlane for this afternoon's second qualifying session, but the PKV Racing driver was able to retain his first ever Champ Car pole position
With a session that started and ended under falling rain - but in the middle featured sunshine that kept two-thirds of the track in dry conditions - it was Team Australia's Will Power who nicked fastest time to grab himself a front-row slot.
Sebastien Bourdais will line up third using his Friday time. The Frenchman was somewhat relieved at the wet track conditions, because he had a gearbox problem and may have not been able to defend his position.
Team Minardi USA's pairing of Robert Doornbos and Dan Clarke appeared the dominant figures for much of the session. However, as the track dried, they slipped down to 10th and 14th respectively.
Paul Tracy, Jan Heylen, Alex Tagliani and Bruno Junqueira each held top slot for a short time, but it was RSPORTS' Justin Wilson who looked to have done enough to put himself at the front, until Power's final flyer.
