Bird takes first win in race two

Sam Bird took his maiden British Formula Three victory in Bucharest after an incident-packed second race on a slightly damp track

The Carlin Motorsport man had quite an easy time of it after the four cars who started ahead of him effectively took themselves out within two laps of the start, which once again was taken behind the safety car.

Front row men Stephen Jelley and Alberto Valerio collided going into the first corner on the second lap, while second row starters Atte Mustonen and Maro Engel hit each other at the following corner. That put Bird into a lead he was never to lose, with his Carlin Motorsport teammate Niall Breen bringing his car home in a comfortable second place.

While Valerio, Mustonen and Engel all retired, Jelley recovered to finish the race third.

John Martin (Alan Docking Racing) slipped in front of a fraught battle between Rodolfo Gonzalez (T-Sport) and points leader Marko Asmer (Hitech Racing) to claim fourth. Asmer was promoted to fifth after Gonzalez was penalised for his driving manners during the race.

Sergio Perez won the National Class division for T-Sport after most of his class rivals tripped over each other.
