Sutil to drive third Midland in Japan

Adrian Sutil will be the third driver for Spyker-Midland in the Japanese Grand Prix, the team confirmed today.

The German impressed the team on his two outings earlier this year for the team, at the Nurburgring and Magny-Cours, and he has been invited back for the event at Suzuka. He has experience of the track through his Japanese Formula Three activities this year.

Midland team boss Colin Kolles said: "It was agreed that if Adrian did a good job in Magny-Cours then he would get another Friday. His performance in Magny-Cours was unusually good. Now he may like to repeat it in Suzuka."

Sutil is excited about the prospect of another F1 outing, which he hoped will put him in the spotlight for a testing role next season.

"Suzuka is a fantastic track with very high requirement for drivers," he said. "I think it would be great fun to drive there with an F1 car and I hope I can do a good job as I did at the Nurburgring and in Magny-Cours.

"I think also that our car in Suzuka will work well.  It is very important at the end of the season to show your skills, because in Formula One what you did yesterday does not count for anything."

GP2 race winner Ernesto Viso is expected to drive the third Midland car in the season-closing Brazilian Grand Prix, while former Red Bull Racing driver Christian Klien could get the car for China.
