Mol hopes for Midland deal this weekend

Michiel Mol, the Dutch businessman who is leading a bid to buy the Midland team, has said he hopes to get the deal finalised at this weekend's Italian Grand Prix

As autosport.com revealed earlier this year, Mol has offered to buy the team from Alex Shnaider but so far that deal has not been accepted.

However, Mol has said that talks have now reached a crucial point and that he hopes to get things settled before the end of this weekend.

Speaking to autosport.com as Monza, Mol said: "There have been some reports that the deal was complete, but that is not the case.

"The deal is not yet done but we are trying to get it done this weekend. I don't know if we will and if we don't make it this weekend then I don't know if it will happen at all.

"But there is a lot of passion and determination from our side to make it happen."

Mol's bid to buy the team involves the Dutch car manufacturer Spyker, who released a statement after the Turkish Grand Prix expressing their interesting in a deal with Midland.

Should the deal come off this weekend, then the team could be renamed Spyker-MF1 for the rest of this season. A full name change could then take place for 2007 pending the unanimous agreement of other teams.
