Piquet narrows title gap with win

Nelson Piquet jr scored in Turkey today his third straight GP2 win, also setting the fastest lap of the feature race, to narrow his deficit to championship leader Lewis Hamilton to just six points

It was a comfortable win for Piquet, who led from start to finish. A charging performance from Hamilton took the Briton into second - and he was catching Piquet when his hopes of victory were blown by an overlong pitstop.

This allowed Piquet to cruise home a comfortable winner. Alex Premat made a lightning start to run second, but he could not match the leaders' pace and dropped back to third, crossing the line only narrowly ahead of Timo Glock, who drove a strong race after his pitstop to take fourth for iSport.

Lucas di Grassi ran as high as second during the pitstop phase, but fifth place was still an excellent return for the Durango driver in his most competitive showing of the year.

In the late stages, the best battle of significance was between Adam Carroll and Andy Zuber for sixth. Carroll just held on for Racing Engineering.

Eighth went to Piquet's teammate Xandi Negrao, and it is the Brazilian who will line up on pole for tomorrow's sprint race.
