Piquet tops Hungary practice

Nelson Piquet Jr showed he is determined to bounce back from his dismal Hockenheim weekend by topping the times in a damp practice session in Hungary

The Brazilian, who in Germany finished 13th in the first race and retired from the second, posted a best time of 1:32.369 to lead Venezuelan Ernesto Viso, and Argentine Jose Maria Lopez.

The session began with all drivers on wet tyres following overnight rain, but the track eventually dried up and times began to tumble.

Some drivers were caught out by the tricky conditions, however, with Luca Filippi being the first one to spin and touch the barriers at turn 11. Javier Villa then followed suit, and so did championship leader Lewis Hamilton, who slammed hard into the Armco after losing control of his car.

Hamilton's crash forced the session to be red flagged as marshals picked up the debris from his car.

The Briton finished down in 17th place.
