Lapierre hopes to return in Germany
Nicolas Lapierre is hoping to return to racing action next week for the German round of the GP2 series, nearly two months after injuring his back in Monaco
The Frenchman has yet to be given the all-clear by his doctors, but he is optimistic that after receiving intensive specialist treatment at a Finnish sports injury clinic last week, he should be ready to come back.
"I should be running again this week and I have been able to keep quite a bit of strength through a lot of work in the gym and swimming," Lapierre said. "Obviously it will be difficult to come back, but I can't wait, really, it's been too long."
The treatment was intended to complete the healing process of they two vertebrae the Arden driver displaced during a first-corner accident at the Monaco GP2 round in May.
"It was good to put some muscle on my back again. I have had to be careful exercising it, as there was a risk I could make the injury worse, but at the moment it feels like it is getting stronger every day."
Lapierre is hoping to be given the final all-clear early next week.
