Ferrari's Michael Schumacher endured a nightmare Chinese Grand Prix after spinning off the race when the Safety Car was on track.
Schumacher had started from the pitlane after crashing with Minardi's Christijan Albers before the start of the race.
And in another bizarre incident, the German lost control of his car at low speed and ended up on the gravel while the race was running behind the Safety Car due to a problem with a drain cover.
"It was obviously a crazy day - not weekend - day," Schumacher told Italian television. "I'm glad it's over now and we can concentrate for next year.
"In the second situation it was simply the tyres being cold. I was behind Felipe [Massa] who was braking as normal and I just skidded as if on ice."
Colombian Juan Pablo Montoya had run over the detached cover, damaging his McLaren, before the Safety Car was deployed to fix the damage on track.
Montoya retired from the race a few laps later, boosting Renault's chances of taking the Constructors' Championship.
