Le Mans 24 Hours Field Chosen

The field for this year's Le Mans 24 Hours on the 18th and 19th of June has been chosen, with a 50 car field set to tackle the prestigious event

The LMP1 and LMP2 classes are well represented, with 14 cars coming from each class, with the remaining 22 cars being split between the two Grand Touring classes, with 10 entries in LM GT1 and 12 in LM GT2.

A total of 38 teams will tackle the event, including the winner of last weekend's Sebring 12 Hours, Champion Racing, with their Audi R8s. Competing alongside them in LMP1 will be a Team Oreca Audi, two Domes, two Dallaras, two Pescarolos, two Courages, a DBA, a Nasamax and a Zytek. Meanwhile LMP2 features seven Courages featuring various powerplants, along with three Lolas, two WRs, a Pilbeam and a Lucchini.

There will be strong interest in LM GT1, where four Ferrari 550 Maranellos are set to be challenged by two cars which made their racing debuts in Sebring: Aston Martin's DBR9 and Chevrolet's Corvette C6-R, with two entries each. At Sebring, it was Aston Martin who won the battle. A Saleen S7R and a Ferrari 575 GTC round out the class entry.

Finally, LM GT2 sees a strong Porsche entry as usual, with six 911s set to take on the 24 hour challenge. Competition comprises of two Panoz Elans, two Ferrari 360 Modenas, a Spyker C8 Spyder and a TVR Tuscan 400R.

There are eight reserve cars that will take the place of cars currently in the field if cars are withdrawn before late May.

Scrutineering begins on the 3rd of June, with the first test day for this year's event on the 5th. This is the first time the new schedule has been used, with a more compact timeframe being used.
