Zytek's Le Mans run ends

The Zytek Engineering 04S of David Brabham, Andy Wallace and Hayanari Shimoda's impressive Le Mans 24 Hours run has come to an end in spectacular fashion.

The car's engine expired shortly before half-distance, spewing oil across the track and bringing out the safety car. The Zytek crawled into the pits with flames flicking from its rear, but immediately retired once the flames the car retired.

The Zytek car qualified third, splitting the all conquering Audi R8 quartet, and ran strongly in the early laps of the race before losing time with a couple of punctures. However, the machine battled back through the order, and had risen to seventh overall before the engine failure.

Zytek's John Wickham said: "Unfortunately the engine expired. The car was running very well, with David putting in a very quick last stint and trading times with the Ferrari, but that's it."

The safety car has been brought out to clear up the oil, allowing the Audi Sport Japan machine to close in further on the leading Audi Sport UK car.
