Le Mans 2004 is go!
Jamie Davies led an Audi 1-2-3-4 after the first lap of the 2004 Le Mans 24 Hours. The Englishman, who started from pole in the British Veloqx R8, was forced to defend from a hard-charging Allan McNish in the team's sister car as the two cars raced through the first chicane
Former winner McNish wasn't giving up however and tucked himself right up behind the Davies/Johnny Herbert/Guy Smith car.
JJ Lehto, sharing the Champion Audi with Marco Werner and Emanuele Pirro, passed the Seiji Ara/Tom Kristensen/Rinaldo Cappello Team Goh R8 on the Mulsanne straight while Jan Lammers moved ahead of the Andy Wallace driven-Zytek for fifth place.
Champ Car star Sebastien Bourdais ran seventh in the Pescarolo ahead of the Kondo Dome and the second Racing for Holland Dome with Tom Coronel (who shares the car with Justin Wilson and Ralph Firman) at the wheel.
The predicted epic battle for the GTS class between Prodrive Ferrari and the factory Corvettes appear to have begun. Peter Kox leads the GTS class in his Prodrive Ferrari ahead of team-mate Darren Turner and the two Corvettes of Oliver Gavin and Ron Fellows. All four cars are circulating together.
Jean-Marc Gounon leads the LM2 class for Courage while Sascha Maassen is on top in the GT category in his White Lightning/Petersen Porsche.
