Leo Ress, the R&D director of the Sauber-Petronas F1 team in Hinwil, Switzerland, has quit after more than 17 years with the company. Ress designed the successful Sauber-Mercedes Group C sportscars between 1985 and 1992, and then led the design team when the company moved into F1. He took over the R&D process when he was replaced as Sauber's technical director in 2000 by Willy Rampf.
