Baumgartner gets Jordan test chance

Hungary's leading racing driver Zsolt Baumgartner will drive for Jordan in Friday's two-hour test session ahead of the German Grand Prix at Hockenheim

The Coloni Motorsport Formula 3000 driver completed a few demonstration laps in a Jordan during last year's Hungarian Grand Prix meeting. He carried out a 50km shakedown at Silverstone's South Circuit on Monday.

Gary Anderson, Jordan's director of race and test engineering, said: "On Friday morning Zsolt Baumgartner will drive our third car. It will be the first time we've run three cars in the test session and hopefully it will allow us to understand the tyre performance better over longer runs, something other teams with a third driver have benefited from already this season."

Baumgartner, who will also test at the Hungaroring, said: "I was really happy to get a chance to drive an F1 car in normal track conditions. I drove the Jordan EJ-12 last year at the Hungarian Grand Prix but that was just a three-lap demonstration run and this was very different. I hope that I can do a good job with the engineers and the team in Hockenheim and I want to show them my maximum performance, that's my goal.

"I know the circuit because I raced at Hockenheim last year in F3000 and I'll be racing there again this weekend. I know the track well enough from last year to do a good job and my favourite part is definitely the stadium section."
