Testing: Trulli beats the showers
Jarno Trulli topped the two-hour Friday free practice session for the limited testing teams in Interlagos, as rain washed out the session with just half an hour remaining
The Italian's Renault lapped in 1m14.262s and once again put in 41 laps, two more than team mate Fernando Alonso, who spun into the Turn Four gravel 15 minutes from the end of the session as he took the opportunity to do some wet tyre running. The car sustained no damage.
Antonio Pizzonia made a promising start to his home Grand Prix as he topped the session for much of the first hour and ended up second quickest on 1m14.464s. The Jaguar team appeared to change strategy here, concentrating on getting some mileage under its belt rather than 'running in' its cars. Pizzonia's session was interrupted by an incident at Turn 14, which resulted in a run back to the pits. Team mate Mark Webber was third quickest, just 0.03s adrift of 'Jungle Boy,' while Alonso had to content himself with 1m14.680s.
Giancarlo Fisichella was well in touch with the Jordan EJ13 on 1m15.092s, a second clear of Allan McNish (1m16.087s) who did just 16 laps with the second Renault.
Jos Verstappen (1m16.322s) had some lurid moments on dry tyres as the rain fell but finished up seventh with the first European Minardi Cosworth, 0.23s faster than Ralph Firman (1m16.559s), whose session was interrupted when his Jordan ground to a halt exiting the pits. Justin Wilson was back in action after his painful HANS experiences in Malaysia and was quickly on the pace and in touch on 1m16.615s.
