Ex-F1 driver Mark Blundell tests his BTCC Audi for the first time

Ex-Formula 1 driver Mark Blundell got his first taste of a British Touring Car Championship machine at Silverstone on Thursday by testing his Trade Price Cars Racing Audi S3

The 52-year-old, a three-time F1 podium finisher, ran in wet and dry conditions throughout the day on the Silverstone National circuit.

He is now heading for more mileage at Oulton Park on Friday.

Blundell said that he was happy with his initial running, but realised that he had a lot still to learn.

"I am pleased with the day - the car was better than I anticipated," said the 1992 Le Mans 24 Hours winner.

"I was trying to get near the limit, and it gives you huge respect for what these guys who are successful in the BTCC do.

"To go through Copse corner just changing down one gear to fifth and having the rear move round on a front-wheel-drive car, is something way outside of my comfort zone.

"That is something that, even with my level of experience, is going to take a while to get used to.

"I am not sure what is required yet to get the most out of a BTCC car, particularly as it is front-wheel drive, but this is all part of the journey I am going on."

Blundell has further running planned at Knockhill next week and will also take part in the pre-season media day at Brands Hatch on March 27 before the season opener at the same venue on April 6/7.

"Going through the quick stuff on the edge and sideways is a great feeling," said Blundell. "I was still a bit rusty myself and there is so much more to come.

"These are only the first steps and I am learning all the way."

AmDTuning squad will oversee the operation of Blundell's Audi, and team principal Shaun Hollamby said he was delighted with the way the day had gone.

"Just to watch Mark's attitude from the moment he got in the car was a revelation," said Hollamby.

"He didn't play himself in, he was pushing straight away.

"I came away with the feeling this is going to be a really exciting partnership."
