F2 Jerez testing: De Vries fastest on day two for ART Grand Prix
ART Grand Prix's Nyck de Vries set the fastest time on the second day of Formula 2 testing at Jerez, as Dorian Boccolacci topped the afternoon session for Campos Racing
De Vries lapped set a time of 1m24.723s during the morning session on the softest Pirelli tyre available, as eight drivers broke under the 1m24s mark, which was not been breached on the first day of the test.
Ex-Prema Racing driver de Vries - along with the majority of the rest of the field - then spent most of Wednesday undertaking long runs, meaning the top 12 morning laps on the red-walled soft tyre stood as the day's best.
Virtuosi Racing - which has taken over Russian Time's F2 entry and kept many of the team's personnel - had a strong morning.
Series veteran Luca Ghiotto took second ahead of his rookie team-mate, Renault Formula 1 junior Guan Yu Zhou.
Ghiotto's time was just 0.022s slower than de Vries, but any chance of improving during the morning session was hampered when he stopped in the gravel at Turn 8.
A pair of sons of F1 drivers rounded out the top five as new Carlin signing Louis Deletraz (son of Jean-Dennis Deletraz) took fourth, ahead of Prema's reigning European Formula 3 champion Mick Schumacher (son of Michael Schumacher).
Williams F1 junior Nicholas Latifi - who also stopped at Turn 8 during the morning - and McLaren test and development driver Sergio Sette Camara ended up sixth and seventh for DAMS.
Ferrari Academy ace and F2 rookie Callum Ilott rounded out the eight drivers that were able to break into the 1m24s in the morning.
Ilott brought out a red flag for a spin at Turn 1, and despite the Sauber Junior Team driver topping most of the afternoon session, he was jumped late-on by Boccolacci and Trident's Giuliano Alesi - son of Jean Alesi.
Boccolacci managed a 1m25.493s in the afternoon, which was good enough for the 13th fastest time on the day.
Anthoine Hubert - the reigning GP3 champion also caused a red flag when he went off at Turn 4 in his Arden-run car.
A track inspection during the morning session halted proceedings and added to the red flag count.
Antonio Fuoco replaced Ralph Boschung in the Trident line-up for day two of the test and set the 17th fastest time.
After his car suffered a mechanical fault on Tuesday, Jordan King was not able to get back out on track for MP Motorsport.
