Apex Online Racing launches 'Esports Team Tournament'

Apex Online Racing has announced the launch of a new 'Esports Team Tournament' on Codemasters' F1 2018, in partnership with broadcaster Events House and boasting a £5000 prize pool

Over the past decade, AOR has established itself as one of the leading sim racing leagues, providing the majority of the official Formula 1 Esports series drivers as well as setting up leagues across most other major racing games.

The nine-week competition will run on all three platforms (Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC), with a live UK final rounding out the event where the fastest teams from each platform will face off.

The series is open to new and existing teams, both professional and amateur, with two drivers fielded per race event, but a maximum of five drivers can be used throughout by each team.

"Originally the Team Tournament was supposed to launch in September last year," AOR co-founder Dan Hawkins told Autosport.

"However because of a longer-term plan, we held off releasing in order to get a 24-month plan sorted for tournaments, to make sure we reward our community for the hours they spend gaming.

"We're looking to engage with those Esports teams, who are making careers for the community. We want to be apart of those careers, and when they look back they can see that AOR was an important part of their Esports careers.

"We're really excited to share what we've got planned very soon."

Two weeks of time trials will be used for the qualification process, with the fastest 10 teams on each platform progressing to race in the nine-race main series.

Qualification for the series is now open, sign-ups, as well as more information, can be found here.
