WTCR's season will not end until mid-December at Sepang

The World Touring Car Cup has revealed its season-ending round at the Sepang circuit will take place in the middle of December

Malaysian venue Sepang was added to the 2019 WTCR calendar at last year's meeting of the FIA's World Motor Sport Council but, although it was announced as the host venue for the season finale, it was not assigned a date.

Subject to approval from the WMSC next month, the Sepang round will take place on the December 14-15 weekend, three weeks after the series' flagship Macau Guia race weekend that has traditionally acted as World Touring Cars' curtain closer.

WTCR will share the billing with the first running of the Sepang 8 Hours - a round of the Endurance World Championship motorcycle series that WTCR promoter Eurosport Events also organises.

Practice and qualifying will take place on Friday December 13, but all three WTCR races will take place on the Sunday as Saturday's track activity is reserved for the EWC race.

The third of the Sunday races will be run under floodlights at 7pm local time.

"We are very proud to be working with the Sepang International Circuit and writing with them a new chapter in the country's and south-east Asia's motorsport history," said Eurosport Events head Francois Ribeiro.

"It promises to be a weekend of great action and entertainment for all the family with racing for bikes and cars at day and by night.

"As promoter of both FIA WTCR and FIM EWC, we proposed to SIC to run both series over the same weekend.

"The circuit has the highest level of homologation for both two and four wheels and has a long experience of putting on world championships events, so we feel confident to deliver a unique experience to fans, teams, drivers and riders."

The series has also announced that Malaysian driver Mitchell Cheah will be a wildcard entrant at the Sepang round.
