F2 Spain: DAMS driver Albon tops practice ahead of Sette Camara

Baku feature race winner Alexander Albon continued his strong form by topping Formula 2 practice at Barcelona

In the first part of the 45-minute session, a battle erupted between Albon, the Carlin-run cars of Lando Norris and Sergio Sette Camara, and Campos driver Luca Ghiotto for control of the top spot on the time sheets.

With around 16 minutes to go, Albon held a slide perfectly through Barcelona's Turn 13, the quick but tight right-hander approaching the final chicane.

The corner caught many F2 drivers in practice, as well as several GP3 racers during the third tier category's practice running earlier on Friday, but Albon was still able to set a time of 1m29.357s.

That secured the top spot honours ahead of Sette Camara by 0.2s, and Luca Ghiotto was a further two tenths adrift in third.

Nyck de Vries joined the party to put his Prema Racing-run car fourth, ahead of Norris, whose final fast lap was compromised by skating into the run-off heading onto the straight after rapid right of the Campsa Turn 9.

Antonio Fuoco continued Charouz Racing System's strong run in its debut F2 year to take sixth, with Roberto Merhi and George Russell both the highest-placed drivers for their teams, MP Motorsport and ART Grand Prix, in seventh and eighth respectively.

Roy Nissany and Russell's ART team-mate Jack Aitken sealed the final spots in the top 10.

The early running was halted by Trident driver Santino Ferrucci going off on his installation lap at the start of the session, while Ralph Boschung (MP) spun off at the entry to Turn 4, which caused a further delay to the session.
