DiRT world championships: Oscaro gets revenge on Fernando Alonso's team

The Oscaro eSports team dominated the semi-finals of the inaugural DiRT 4's eSports World Championships, earning three of the six spots in the grand final

Team manager Kevin Leaune expressed his delight in the result and in triumphing over two-time Formula 1 world champion Fernando Alonso's duo of eSports drivers on the PC.

"I'm very proud of my players because we have taken our revenge on the FA Racing G2 team, our drivers are very focused, and we go to Silverstone, with the sole goal of winning the grand final," Leaune said.

French virtual giants Oscaro's superiority was most apparent on the PC, where its drivers earned a 1-2-3 finish in the final standings.

Its Finnish star Joona P mesmerised viewers with a dominant display around the birthplace of rallycross at Lydden Hill.

However, he was forced to settle for second as his Spanish team-mate Cherokee won the final two of four events to top the standings.

Their team-mate Alexandru Botos was third but only the top two drivers from each platform progressed through to the six-driver final.

Cherokee's path to the final was anything but straightforward. After a rocket-launch in the final rallycross race, he found himself sandwiched between team-mate and poleman Botos as well as John Harris, a member of the Veloce eSports team and the driver who topped the quarter-finals.

Harris compared the "racing incident" to the multi-car collision at the start of Formula 1's Singapore Grand Prix last year, and bemoaned "PC issues before the event because of the abnormal temperatures in France" where he studies for his disappointing result.

Oscaro's driver Quinto came second in the PS4 class to Swede 'xVZombieSlayaaVx', booking his place in the final and making it three Oscaro drivers progressing.

'G2 Nestor', one of Alonso's sim racing stars, was disappointed not to qualify, and his team-mate 'G2 Topa', fresh from winning the 'A1' rallycross competition on Project Cars 2 at an event in Vienna, Austria, was also eliminated.

South African racer 'SixtiethYard333' followed on from his dominant display in the quarter-finals to top the Xbox side and finish just one point off the maximum attainable.

German 'KickedinYOOO' edged out Briton 'Day V M' for a spot in the grand final, which will be held at the Speedmachine Festival, alongside the British round of the World Rallycross Championship at Silverstone.
