Danica Patrick could get Indy 500 seat with Dreyer & Reinbold

Danica Patrick could find an Indianapolis 500 seat with Dreyer & Reinbold Racing, as the team expects to expand to two cars for the 2018 race

Dreyer & Reinbold has regularly fielded a one-car entry for IndyCar's biggest race but is in discussions with the series and Chevrolet about a second entry.

Patrick, who had admitted arranging her planned swansong at the Daytona 500 and the Indy 500 was taking longer than expected, signed a new sponsorship deal with Go Daddy on Thursday.

When asked if he was negotiating with Patrick, owner Dennis Reinbold told Autosport that she was one of several drivers in consideration.

"We've been speaking with Danica's people, but we're not very far down the road right now, so I'm not sure where that stands," he said.

"But Danica was always good at the speedway so if she can get back to that level after six years away, I'm sure she can be very strong once more and we can give her a very competitive package.

"So yes, Danica is on our list, Sage [Karam] is definitely on the list, JR Hildebrand is high on the list, and we've been speaking to other quality guys like Oriol Servia, too."

Reinbold added that the decision on drivers would not come down to financials alone and that Karam was "highly likely" for one seat.

"We've spoken to some drivers who have money, some who have none," he said, "But the priority is always to win the race and I want to double my chances by having two potential winners.

"I would say we should be able to announce one driver in one-to-two weeks.

"The other one should be roughly the same time frame."

Patrick is still in discussions over a Daytona 500 seat and Autosport understands she is in talks with at least one NASCAR Cup team.
