WEC Ferrari 488 GTE confirmed for main feature at 2018 Autosport Show

The 2017 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) Ferrari 488 GTE is the latest car to be confirmed for the main Ferrari feature at Europe's biggest pre-season motorsport show, Autosport International

Autosport International

Autosport International is a four-day event motorsport event that includes a two-day trade show for industry professionals and a two-day public show.

The car on display at the NEC from 11th-14th January 2018 is the one which sealed the GT manufacturers' crown at the last WEC race in Shanghai, China. It is Ferrari's fifth WEC constructors' title (2012, 2013, 2014, 2016, 2017) and the 24th overall among the manufacturers' championships sanctioned by the FIA.

The two 488 GTE AF Corse teams are represented by Alessandro Pier Guidi and James Calado in number 51 car and Davide Rigon and Sam Bird in the 71 car.

This year's Ferrari 488 GTE is the most successful car in its class. The AF Corse team has taken the top step of the podium at four rounds of the 2017 season with the finale at Bahrain this weekend at the Sakhir Circuit.

The Ferrari 488 GTE car made its debut in 2016 and secured that year's WEC GT manufacturers' title with victories at Silverstone, Spa and the Nürburgring. Designed in line with the FIA's mid-engine-friendly regulations, the Ferrari 488 GTE boasts a four-litre, twin turbocharged V8 engine capable of 500bhp and comprises an exhaust-blown diffuser, a double splitter and unique underbody vortex generator, making it one of the most powerful and aero-efficient GT race cars.

The car will join the Ferrari 488 Challenge on the main Ferrari feature stand, which was confirmed earlier this month.

The main Ferrari feature at Autosport International will showcase the range of cars available through Corse Clienti, Ferrari's exclusive client racing programme, from Challenge car to GT car, through the XX development cars to Formula One. The 488 Challenge represents one element within the Corse Clienti programme - The Ferrari Challenge, a series which regularly renews itself to become ever more interesting.

Corse Clienti can, uniquely in the automotive world, take an owner via its Corsa Pilota programme from a 488 GTB through the Ferrari Challenge series to Le Mans, or the XX development cars through to even owning and driving a Scuderia Ferrari F1 car.

Further information about the other cars on the Ferrari main feature and drivers will be announced in due course.

Autosport Media UK Editor-in-Chief, Andrew van de Burgt, said: "We are enormously excited to confirm the World Endurance Championship-winning Ferrari 488 GTE at Autosport International.

"Fans coming to the show will be able to get up close to one of Ferrari's most successful competition cars, which has performed so well this season. Keep your eyes peeled for more iconic Ferrari cars on the centrepiece over the coming weeks."

The event is part of Motorsport Network's UK title, Autosport - one of the world's leading print and online motorsport publishers.

Motorsport Network is the world's largest independent automotive and motorsport-related digital platform, connecting millions of people who love motorsport and cars. The network also creates key industry events including Autosport International and the annual Autosport Awards.
