Extended double-points Snetterton race added to 2018 BTCC calendar
The British Touring Car Championship will run an extended double-points race at Snetterton next year to celebrate its 60th anniversary
The third race of the Snetterton event on July 29 will be extended to 60 miles - roughly twice the length of a traditional BTCC race.
Drivers will not have to race with success ballast, and a separate qualifying session will take place the day before to set the grid for the special event.
BTCC series director Alan Gow said: "We are delighted to confirm this special extended race as part of the BTCC's diamond jubilee celebrations.
"As well, there will be a number of additional activities to celebrate our 60th anniversary throughout 2018 which will be revealed over the next few months.
"We believe this 60-mile race will add a further sporting twist to what will be a fantastic and memorable season.
"I am sure our loyal teams, drivers, venues, officials, sponsors, partners, marshals and of course our fans will share in this excitement, making the Snetterton race weekend an unmissable event in 2018."
The race will not be the first time Snetterton has hosted a unique BTCC event - the Norfolk circuit held the series' first night race in 1999 during the Super Touring era.
