TCR UK reveals provisional calendar for debut season in 2018

The TCR UK series has revealed a provisional calendar for its first season, in a line-up of seven events spread around England and Scotland

Its 2018 schedule will run from March to October and comprises Silverstone, Knockhill, Brands Hatch, Castle Combe, Oulton Park, Croft and Donington Park.

"I'm delighted that we've been able to confirm the calendar so soon after announcing the TCR UK series and I'm extremely grateful to the BRSCC and the circuits for their hard work in agreeing the dates," said Jonathan Ashman, TCR UK promoter.

"We've been amazed at the response from drivers and teams ever since we made the initial announcement and the unveiling of the calendar means those teams and drivers can now make firm plans for the 2018 season."

TCR UK had considered running as a support series to the British GT championship, but the organiser has elected to run with the British Racing and Sports Car Club (BRSCC) at the top of its own billing.

Of the equivalent 2017 meetings to the TCR UK calendar, only Knockhill is not a BRSCC meeting.

The series also confirmed that drivers will get at least two races irrelevant of how many entries the series receives.

If entries go above the maximum grid for UK circuits, which is 40 at some circuits but lower at others, the series will run to a different format, featuring qualifying and then an 'A' and a 'B' final race.

The current TCR series have a qualifying and two sprint races, with competitors not split at any point.

British Touring Car Championship squad Motorbase and multiple-Clio Cup winning squad Pyro are among what Autosport understands to be 27 teams interested in the series, while drivers such as BTCC leader Ash Sutton has confirmed his interest.

Sean Walkinshaw Racing is the latest team to back the series, aiming for a two-car entry with Honda Civics in what will be its first foray into tin-tops.

None of the dates clash with the BTCC's 60th anniversary calendar for 2018.

Provisional TCR UK 2018 calendar

March 31-April 1 Silverstone
May 12-13 Knockhill
June 2-3 Brands Hatch
July 14-15 Castle Combe
August 4 Oulton Park
September 8-9 Croft
October 13-14 Donington Park
