Aurelien Panis has left the Zengo Motorsport World Touring Car Championship team with immediate effect and will complete the season in TCR International.
The son of 1996 Monaco Grand Prix winner Olivier Panis switched from single-seater racing to saloons this year with his WTCC deal.
His best results so far are a pair of 10th-place finishes from Marrakech and the Hungaroring.
Panis has retained his support from Honda France and will now join the Boutsen Ginion Racing team in TCR, starting from this weekend's Oschersleben round.
Zengo's European Touring Car Championship driver Zsolt Szabo will take Panis's place in the team's second WTCC Honda for the next round at Termas de Rio Hondo, restoring an all-Hungarian line-up alongside Daniel Nagy.
Team principal Zoltan Zengo expects to fill the seat by rotating between Zengo's existing driver pool from its ETCC and TCR programmes.
"While we are committed to running a second car alongside Daniel Nagy for the rest of the season, we are considering giving two of our other young drivers, Ferenc Ficza and Norbert Nagy, the chance to do a WTCC race and we'll make an announcement on this in due course," he said.
