MotoGP extends Sachsenring practice time after resurfacing

Andrea Iannone leads Marc Marquez, Sachsenring 2016

MotoGP has added 20 minutes of additional running to the German Grand Prix Friday schedule due to the resurfacing of the Sachsenring.

The opening day's practice sessions will both have five more minutes added at each end, meaning practice one runs from 9.50am local time to 10.45am and practice two from 2.05pm to 3pm.

Michelin is bringing an additional tyre compound this weekend so that riders have four options.

Local noise restrictions mean a MotoGP bike cannot be tested at the Sachsenring outside of the GP weekend, so Michelin has been unable to gather any data on the new surface.

It had hoped to stick to a maximum of three front and rear dry compound options this season but instead it will bring a soft, two variations of medium and a hard.

All of them will be asymmetric and considerably harder on the left due to the circuit layout.

Michelin will still bring the compulsory 'safety' compound - an even harder option only used in extreme circumstances - as well.
