Hungaroring DTM: Rene Rast doubles up on pole as Audi stars again

Audi rookie Rene Rast doubled up in Sunday's DTM qualifying at the Hungaroring to claim his second pole in a row

Rast had taken his maiden DTM pole on Saturday as Audi dominated the session, before finishing sixth in the race, and he replicated the feat on Sunday despite the marque's overnight added weight of 10kg.

The Audi driver's late flyer of 1m34.740s was 0.063s faster than Marco Wittmann's earlier benchmark.

The reigning champion still claimed a front row spot, beating the rest of the BMW team by more than four-tenths in an impressive showing.

Audi again showed impressive pace, despite the added weight, with four cars following Wittmann on the timesheets.

Mattias Ekstrom and Nico Muller both improved late in the session to grab third and fourth, demoting Mike Rockenfeller to fifth.

Rockenfeller was fastest before the mid-session pitstops, but could not improve in the late stages.

Jamie Green, who was disqualified from seventh on Saturday, will start sixth.

Championship leader Lucas Auer was the top Mercedes in seventh, albeit only less than four-tenths adrift.

The top 10 was completed by BMW trio Timo Glock, Augusto Farfus and Tom Blomqvist.

Yesterday's winner Paul di Resta was only 12th behind Gary Paffett.
