Third ex-works Lada Vesta entered for WTCC Vila Real

Yann Ehrlacher WTCC 2017

RC Motorsport will run a third ex-factory Lada Vesta in the World Touring Car Championship at Vila Real later this month for Portuguese driver Manuel Fernandes.

French outfit RC acquired the Vestas, which had been run by the works Lada squad before its withdrawal from the WTCC at the end last year, ahead of the start of the 2017 season.

It registered two cars for the full campaign, entering one for the Marrakech season-opener - driven by Yann Ehrlacher, the nephew of four-time champion Yvan Muller - before expanding to a two-car line-up at Monza with Kevin Gleason.

RC will now field a third Vesta for Fernandes in a one-off for his home race.

The 41-year-old will be making his debut in the championship, but did win the opening WTCC-supporting European Touring Car Cup race at the street circuit last year.

"I'm really excited," said Fernandes.

"I missed the opportunity to do this race two years ago but I knew inside that one day if I had another chance to participate I wouldn't let it go.

"This is the opportunity to do one thing that I love in a no-pressure environment.

"My preparation will be on the racing weekend only but it's my city, a track that I know very well and with no need to get any results."
