Indy 500: Helio Castroneves top Carb Day as Honda has more woe
Helio Castroneves topped Carb Day as practice running for the Indianapolis 500 came to an end and Honda suffered another engine problem
Penske driver Castroneves is looking for his fourth Indy 500 victory this weekend, and has qualified 19th for the race.
He topped the final day of practice with a tow-aided lap of 227.377mph, 0.5mph faster than Andretti's Takuma Sato in the best of the Honda-powered cars.
Tony Kanaan was third quickest ahead of Chip Ganassi Racing team-mate and Indy poleman Scott Dixon.
McLaren Formula 1 driver Fernando Alonso continued his strong preparation for his Indy 500 debut with the fifth-fastest time.
Graham Rahal, 2016 Indy 500 race winner Alexander Rossi, Josef Newgarden, Juan Pablo Montoya and Ryan Hunter-Reay completed the top 10.
James Hinchcliffe was 14th in his Schmidt Peterson Motorsports-run entry, but added to Honda's difficult month when he appeared to suffer an engine blowout after 29 laps.
On Wednesday Honda admitted it was still seeking answers for the reliability problems that have struck its engines throughout May.
Sebastien Bourdais and Charlie Kimball had problems in the Indy road course race before Graham Rahal, Bourdais (again) and Alonso suffered issues during testing for the 500.
HPD race team leader Allen Miller said at the time there was a common theme to most of the blow-ups during both the road course event and the 500 build-up.
