Formula E Monaco: Lopez aiming for medical clearance after practice
Jose Maria Lopez will take part in first practice for Formula E's Monaco ePrix, then be assessed to see if he can continue for the remainder of the event
The Argentine's programme with DS Virgin Racing runs alongside his commitment to the World Endurance Championship with Toyota's LMP1 team.
Lopez crashed in the WEC opener at Silverstone, damaging two vertebrae and sitting out the second round at Spa last weekend as a precaution.
Autosport understands Lopez has been cleared to take part in Formula E's 45-minute first practice session in Monaco, scheduled for 8am local time Saturday morning, but the FIA wishes to check him again afterwards.
Should Lopez be unable to continue after FP1, the team will need to make a request to the stewards to replace him with reserve driver Alex Lynn, who is in Monaco on standby.
The same process applied to Robin Frijns at Andretti, where BMW factory driver Alexander Sims is on-hand in case the Dutchman's knee injury prevents him from taking part - even though Frijns is adamant he will race.
Lynn will make his Formula E race debut if he steps in for Lopez at the last minute.
The Briton has been working with DS Virgin since the start of this year, attending the Buenos Aires ePrix before taking part in the Mexico City shakedown session while Lopez was travelling back from Toyota's LMP1 car launch event.
He also recently completed a test with DS in the team's 2017/18 development car, and is due to race in New York when both Lopez and Sam Bird are on Nurburgring WEC duty.
